New Gradebook
Starting in Spring 2019 faculty will have the option of whether or not they want to use the current Canvas gradebook or make the switch to the new gradebook. Regardless, the whole College will be switching to the new gradebook as of Summer 2019.
Functional Comparison
There are a number of cool new features in the new Gradebook (Ex: automatic no submission & late policies), but to help you decide if you want to make the change or not, check out this handy comparison between the current and new gradebooks - Functional Comparison: Current vs New Canvas Gradebook Links to an external site..
How to turn on the New Gradebook
To turn on the new gradebook for your course go to Settings --> Feature Options (tab on the top right) --> "New Gradebook" (move the slider from a gray X to a green check mark). For additional assistance see the following guide - How do I manage new features for a course? Links to an external site.
**Note: Do NOT turn on the new gradebook for a current semester course. If you are going to make the switch then do it BEFORE the start of the semester or try it in a Sandbox course.
Can you switch the gradebook from the new back to the old?
You cannot switch back to the current Gradebook if you enable late policies or even manually adjust the labels in the Grade Detail Tray. Once you have done one of these two things, the feature option in the course will not allow you to return to the old Gradebook.
Does the new gradebook look different for students?
No, the new gradebook does not look different to students. It only looks different for the Instructor.
