Profiles give instructors (and students) the ability to add information about themselves (ex: Bio, Website, etc.) that will be visible to the people (students and other instructors) in their Courses. Because students in your courses will be able to see anything you post on your profile page, please be cautious about the personal information you share on your profile.
Notification Preferences allows you to select how and when you want to be notified when various events occur within your course, such as a change in a due date, an updated assignment, or a message sent from within Canvas.
Canvas supports notification through e-mail, SMS text message, and Twitter. Canvas users can choose to receive notification alerts immediately, daily, weekly, or never.
In Canvas each Instructor has a place where they can upload their own personal files. These files are visible only to the instructors and students cannot see them.

Settings
Canvas allows you to add other ways to receive notifications about course updates, announcements, etc., in addition to your Richland email. You can add another email address, or set up to receive text messages.
Canvas is integrated with a number of third party Web services like Google Docs, LinkedIn, & Twitter. Most of these services can be configured from your User Profile page. Registering other Web services with Canvas creates different ways to be contacted.
ePortfolios are tied to the user Profiles and not a specific course. Because of this, users can build an unlimited number of ePortfolios in which to collect and document their educational projects, submissions, experiences, and other work products. Users can keep ePortfolios private or share with students, other instructors, and/or future employers.
What can ePortfolios be used for?
ePortfolios could be used for:
Journaling and reflection
Create an online site that can be turned as an online Assignments
Demonstrate mastery of course Outcomes
Share your best work from multiple courses
Showcase professional-quality work for prospective employees
