Course Overview
Welcome to BUS 240 Advertising, a Distance Education course. In this course you will be exploring how companies and organizations use advertising as part of their integrated marketing communications to build valued relationships their customers. Our approach will include the study of traditional advertising concepts integrated with timely real world examples and new media advertising. You will become familiar with concepts and current thinking of advertisers, and you will have the opportunity to analyze and apply these ideas to the business world. This is a course where you will bring your own work experience to our virtual classroom to create a robust learning environment. Expect your advertising acumen to grow through group discussions, and thought-provoking case study analysis.
In order to be successful in this course you will need to: 1) complete reading and writing assignments, 2) participate in online discussions, 3) develop and write an advertising plan for a business, 4) review and analyze and create various forms of advertising, and 5) take quizzes and exams. Online courses move quickly, please be prepared to spend approximately 7-10 hours per week on coursework for this class. Are you wondering how successful you may be at a distance education course? This course is taught using Canvas and Connect. These are Web-based tools used to facilitate teaching an online class. These platforms provide the framework for the BUS 240 class including an e-Book, student data files, the tools to receive and send course materials, and a grade book. Using Canvas, you can communicate with other students, and you can share materials and ideas with other course participants via the discussion forum.

This class is entirely online with no in-person class sessions. You will need to have access to an e-mail account and the internet. Please read carefully!!! The course requires a textbook, and online access to Connect, this bundle is available in the college bookstore http://bookstore.cuesta.edu/Links to an external site.. I have worked with the publisher to get the Cuesta Bookstore the lowest available price for this bundle.
