Welcome to distance education at Cuesta College! My name is Marilyne Cleeves, and I will be your instructor in the upcoming online version of Introduction to Beginning Keyboarding (PDS 162). This letter is to inform you of some important details prior to the commencement of the online class. Please read this page carefully!! me.jpg


  • Textbooks are shrink wrapped and have a code printed under the CD. The code can be used only once to get in the Internet class. If you have obtained a textbook from a friend or another source, you will need to purchase an online access code from www.EllsworthPublishing.comLinks to an external site..

The publisher has a 60 free trial Links to an external site.of the online version of the the book. To purchase the online version, you will need to register through the publisher.

If you purchase a used book, make sure you DO NOT pay over $11.99 for a used book. You will still need the online access code for a used book.

All of the lessons are on the Internet and your progress will be recorded to my online grade book. We will be communicating regularly.

If you have a limited or unstable internet connection, we will need to make other arrangements.




Keyboarding Online works in all environments!

It is suggested that you have a standard size keyboard while learning.


The Student Learning Outcomes statements are a list of expected knowledge, skills, attitudes, competencies, and habits of mind that students are expected to acquire in this course. The outcomes for CIS210 are defined as follows:

  1. I have learned to use proper keyboarding techniques using the home-row as a starting point and moving to the various keys on the keyboard without looking.
  2. I understand the importance of maintaining a good posture while using the keyboard
  3. I understand what ergonomics is and why it is considered important in the workforce.
  4. I have successfully completed learning all the letters of the keyboard.

This is A Fully online Course; There are no Mandatory Meetings


This course is based on the online assessment program created by the publisher.  I will be monitoring your progress and giving you consistent grade progress reports. All coursework will be designed for the individual typist. I will be determining your skill level and your goal during our first meeting.

Your first assignment is to log onto the online keyboarding program, watch the introductory videos and become familiar with the program.

After you have registered for the class you will find you are now registered for Canvas. You will need to follow these steps:

From the Cuesta Website, Click on the Canvas Link

You will be asked for a username and password. That information is the same as you myCuesta username.

You will see all of the classes you are currently enrolled in listed in this area. If you have an additonal questions. I suggest watching the following video (https://guides.instructure.com/m/4210/l/141852-canvas-overview-video)


Each student is required to follow all school guidelines and comply with all school deadlines including personal responsibility for adding and/or dropping this class. Each student is responsible for obtaining updates or changes to the syllabus and/or assignments for the course.
