Course Environment
This online course will be using a Web-based Learning Management System (LMS) called CANVAS as the method to disseminate information. Embedded within CANVAS will be course materials provided by the textbook publisher that require purchase by the student (see the section on Textbook and Materials below).

Class Orientation
Prior to the course orientation, (see date above) you will receive an email to your CANVAS inbox providing you with a reminder about the course orientation. At the orientation, you will be provided with  procedures for access to an payment of the on-line textbook and other publisher provided materials.

Online Learning/Time commitment
If you have never taken an online class, please be patient with yourself. Online classes are not inherently easier, although they may be much more convenient for many students. You should expect to spend at least as much time, if not more on this course as you would on a course that meets face to face. Since there is no lecture component, much of this time will be self-directed and there will be a substantial amount of reading, viewing, and studying, required.  Since this is a  3 unit class, be prepared to spend up to 9 hours per week on coursework!

Course Description
Presents a study of college algebra and analytic geometry with an emphasis on mathematical modeling. Covers such topics as algebraic equations and inequalities, functions and graphs, zeros of functions, rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, and systems of equations.

Course Pre-requisites
The pre-requisite for this course is  MATH 127: INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA or MATH 126B: TWO-SEMESTER INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA - PART 2 or MATH 128: APPLIED ALGEBRA or equivalent with a grade of C or better or a passing score on the Cuesta College Math Assessment Test. Text Book and Materials

  • The required textbook is in EBook form and is included in the purchase of MyMathLab access.
    The cost of MyMathLab access is between $90 and $120. You do not need to access the course prior to the course orientation. Instructions for purchasing and using MyMathLab  through the CANVAS LMS will be given at the course orientation.  If you prefer to also purchase a hard copy of the book, the title is: College Algebra: Graphs & Models, 5th or 6th Ed. By Bittinger, Beecher, Ellenbogen, and Penna.
  • Course Notes – you can buy these in the Cuesta College bookstore.

  • You will need a Graphing Calculator for this course. I recommend the Ti-83 orTi-84. I do demonstrations only using the Ti-83 plus. It will be up to you to learn how if you choose to use a different calculator.
