Caring for Infants and Toddlers – Intensive Six-Week Course Summer 2018

 

  • You will be able to purchase  your Connect Smart Book through our Canvas course starting June 18th. This online Connect text is $80. You do not need to purchase a hard copy. FYI - There are copies of our texts in both Cuesta College Resource Libraries; SLO and NCC Paso Robles.
  • You are expected to access the course in Canvas on the first day of class June 18th.
  • You will be dropped from the course if you do not purchase in Connect by June 20th.

 

*I DROP enrolled  STUDENTS who do not check into Canvas the FIRST DAY of the semester.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: ECE 242: Caring for Infants and Toddlers

  1. Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
  2. Understand developmentally appropriate guidance, nurturing, and care for infants & toddlers in quality programs.
  3. Develop an understanding of the developmental theories as they apply to infants & toddlers.
  4. Acquire an understanding of sensitive caregiving practices related to infants & toddlers in 
groups and multicultural settings.
  5. Know DSS regulations for licensed infant & toddler programs.
  6. Have a strong understanding of Individually and Culturally Appropriate Practices as they relate to infants, toddlers, and families.

 

REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS – Connect online Smart Books (ebooks): Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers and the Caregiver’s Companion. You MUST PURCHASE the online Connect SmartBooks June 18. There is a free version for the first week. Both hard copy books are available on reserve at Cuesta College Resource Libraries, SLO and Paso Robles campus’ to start reading ahead of time. You can check out reserve books for two hours at a time.

 

COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS – PLEASE READ - Make Sure You Have a Computer that Works for You – Both Cuesta College Campuses have Computer Labs, and Computers in Libraries (free to use)

  • YOU MUST have proficient computer skills; know how to create PDF documents, download, attach, view Power Point Presentations, view online videos, and to connect to web links.
  • YOU NEED a computer with up-to-date software programs in order to access all applications offered for learning online or plan time to use the Cuesta College library or computer labs FREE
  • For final project presentation you MUST be able to produce a Power Point Presentation.
  • You may need to “buy” the appropriate software for your computer.
  • If using an iPad or Tablet, make sure you have the ability to write text to a program that can be downloaded, attached, and able for me to open. You will two written reports for this course; turned into PDF format; and submitted.

 

YOU MUST HAVE basic computer skills (word processing, Power Point, email, attachments etc.). You must know how to create, download, and attach appropriate PDF word docs for two required reports in this course. *If you are on a waitlist be sure to check your My.Cuesta email daily – as you will only have 24 hours to register once your name comes to the top of the waitlist. FYI - I DO NOT GET ADD CODES UNTIL THE FRIDAY BEFORE CLASS STARTS; JUNE 15, 2018. If you are on the wait list I will contact you for an Add Code.

 Plan for a minimum 5-10 hours per week  (depending on your computer skills) for reading, doing assignments, chapter quizzes, and online discussions
