Michelle H. Craig received her Ph.D. in art history from UCLA in 2011. I am originally from Connecticut and have lived in New York, Wisconsin, and California. I have taught at Santa Monica College, UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, The City College of New York, and Eastern Connecticut State University. I specialize in the arts and architecture of Africa and African Diaspora, Islamic arts and architecture, and history of photography. My research has been based in Fez, Morocco, since 2006. I last traveled to Fez in August, 2017 en route to an international conference in Accra, Ghana. I held a National Endowment for the Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Getty Research Institute (2014-15) and was an Editor for the International Journal of Islamic Architecture (2013-2017). I teach Art Appreciation and Art History classes at Cuesta. I was honored to speak at the Smithsonian in February 2020. It was understandably my last trip before the Covid-19 lockdown. I have found that memories of this trip have helped to sustain me while travel is no longer possible. What helps sustain you?
