Allison headshot.jpgA Healthy and Fitness-Filled Welcome!

Welcome to my ePortfolio. My name is Allison Head and I am the instructor for the courses listed to your left. I have been an instructor at Cuesta College going on 26 years. I earned my undergraduate degree from UC Davis and Master’s Degree from Cal Poly - SLO.

I enjoy teaching because of the students who take my classes - they are always interesting, opinionated, willing to be challenged and willing to share their knowledge with others. I also enjoy these classes because fitness, health, and wellness are so applicable to everyday life; you can really use what we learn. And, being healthy and well are things that I strive for in my personal and professional life - although it’s tough!

I teach or have taught, many classes at Cuesta including: Introduction to Kinesiology, Small Group Exercise Training Certification, Women's Health, Personal Fitness and Wellness, Trail Running, Kickboxing, Pilates, Bootcamp, and TRX.

I serve as the Department Chair for Kinesiology, Health Science and Athletics. Moreover, I am the lead faculty member for our Kinesiology and Exercise Science Degree Programs.

I have had various opportunities to grow in my tenure at Cuesta. Over the years I have served as the Women's Softball Coach, the Academic Senate President, the Dean of Workforce, Economic Development and Community Programs, and as Faculty Union President. I enjoy being stretched and challenged to grow - I always learn something about others and myself along the way!

When I am not working, I enjoy hanging out with my husband Scott and my two boys, the cutest dudes in the world, Nicholas (12) and Connor (10). Nicholas is an avid tennis player and Connor races dirt bikes! It’s all boys, all day, at my home so there are lots of motorcycles, Legos, Matchbox cars, and basketballs.

I enjoy reading, listening to country music, shoe shopping, camping, watching any sport, working in the garden and traveling on our KTM 1190 Adventure R. I just started competing in Moto Trials (my husband is a 3x National Champion so I have a good coach).

I have been running ultrathons (usually races 50 miles and longer on trail) for some time. For example, I have run the Headlands 50 miler, Bend Hauln’ Aspen Trail Marathon, and the Miwok 100K (62.5 miles).

I look forward to meeting you in the virtual world...Now, off the computer andoutside to get some activity!
