Welcome to my ePortfolio. My name is Brian Locher and I am the lead instructor at Cuesta College for KINE 201 - Introduction to Kinesiology, as well as a co-instructor for HEED 202 - Health Education. During the summer months I instruct KINE 202 - Principles of Coaching,  and HEED 202.  In the fall of 2023 I will begin my 16th year of instruction at Cuesta College.  Each year has built on another as educational and fulfilling.

Prior to employment at Cuesta I earned my undergraduate degree in Recreation Administration at Chico State University, where I competed in cross country and track and field, and later returned as an assistant coach.   After earning that degree I had the opportunity to travel the world, backpacking from country to country, to learn about new cultures and partake in invaluable life experiences.  During this time I also worked with the U.S. Sports Corps in Guatemala, coaching their Olympic hopeful athletes.  After these rewarding experiences I returned to school to earn my masters degree at Cal Poly State University in Kinesiology while also working as a graduate assistant in intercollegiate track and field and teaching activity courses.

I gravitated toward teaching and coaching at the community college level because I enjoy the personable interactions that take place between instructor and student.  Everyone has something to learn, I from you, and you from me, and I have found this to be a very rewarding process at Cuesta.  The field of Kinesiology is the medium I use to impart my knowledge so that my students can expand and grow and use the material and experiences learned to be adept professionals in their career of choice.

While at Cuesta College I have taught/coach intercollegiate cross country and track and field, soccer, multiple varieties of weight lifting (power, strength, resistance), KINE 201 - Introduction to Kinesiology, KINA 217 - Kickboxing, KINA 236 - Backpacking, and REC 201 - Introduction to Recreation, HEED 202 - Health Education.  I believe that being healthy and "well" are valuable commodities in todays world of technology and "go, go, go".  So... go out there and get fit; go for a run, smell the fresh air on a walk, hike into the hills, swim in the ocean or stay in the gym and lift iron.  Any outlet for exercise is a good one.

When I am not working, my wife and I enjoy spending time with our families in Seattle, traveling to new places around the world, and I in particular try to get outdoors into the mountains to backpack a couple times a year.  Or give me a good novel, a good run, and a good meal and I'm a pretty happy guy.  Addendum; Emily and I had a child, Jude Moseley Locher in January 2022 and spend ALL of our time raising him now.

I look forward to meeting you in the virtual world.

Brian (Professor Locher)
