Welcome Letter:

Welcome to KINE 201.  Over the next 18-weeks I will be your guide to exploring the world of Kinesiology, learning about new professions and to help you find out exactly why you are here.  KINE 201 is a fun course but it is also challenging.  You are required to complete course work and watch video lectures every week and are more likely to be successful if you are organized and diligent in your study habits rather than simply being a good test taker.  KINE 201 is offered asynchronously, with NO mandatory synchronous components.

Diversity Statement:

Inclusion, diversity, and equity are hallmarks of a safe, supportive, and educational classroom environment. Part of my objective for this course is to create the safe space that enables all students to engage openly, respectfully, and equally with their classmates, and their instructor, for their education. Please help me create this space with your own positive actions towards others as well.

Expectations:

Expect to complete 8-12 hours of work on this course, weekly.  See the course Modules calendar for required weekly assignment submissions, participation discussion forums, video presentations, course lectures, and the opportunity to review Power Point slides, take quizzes and exams, and complete reading assignments.  My goal is to provide all required materials to you, the student, on the Monday beginning each week.  Please recognize this is a goal and not a requirement of me.  Be patient with the process as I am working as diligently and efficiently as I expect you are.

Teaching Methods:

My goal is to teach KINE 201 in a way you feel most engaged.  To facilitate this objective, lectures follow a student-centered approach to teaching with elements of the following: facilitative teaching, inquiry guided instruction, and experiential learning.  These methods are conducted through Zoom video’s following Power Point presentations.  Assignments are given in a variety of fashions including video’s, quizzes, written assignments, exams and discussion posts and will draw from lectures, readings, research, and guest speakers when possible. I will post all materials necessary for the week by the Sunday preceding the week they are due to help you best prepare for class.  In assignments and grading I will be firm but fair.  I have high expectations for your work.  So, should you.

Regular Effective Contact policy:

Regular and effective instructor contact will be met through weekly video lectures, instructor initiated discussion forums; weekly announcements to students, timely and effective feedback on student assignments and virtual office hours.
