The best and fastest way to contact me is email. I will generally respond to your emails within 24 hours Monday to Friday. On weekends, I will do my best to get back to you ASAP but I cannot guarantee an expeditious response.

I will communicate with class members on a regular basis through the use of CANVAS Announcements and/or email, please make sure your notification settings in CANVAS are set for daily communication. Please check your Canvas Home page for this class on a regular basis for the most recent announcements - they are posted on the top of the Home page.

Course Environment:

This online course will be using a Web-based Learning Management System known as “Canvas” as the method to disseminate information. Canvas provides the framework for the course including PowerPoint presentations, student data files, exams and the tools to receive and send course materials.

Class opens / Accessing Canvas:

About two weeks prior to the start of classes, you will receive an email to your my.Cuesta.edu address providing you with information about how to get an early start in this rigorous course. Please read your CUESTA email daily during the week before classes begin and throughout the semester. You can access Canvas by logging into the CUESTA COLLEGE HOME PAGE and then clicking on the Canvas button near the top of the page or by typing the Canvas address (https://cuesta.instructure.com/) into your browser address bar. Online Learning:

If you have never taken an online class or this is your first experience with Canvas, please be patient with yourself. Online classes are not inherently easier, although they may be much more convenient for many students. You should expect to spend at least as much time, if not more on this course as you would on a course that meets face-to-face. Much more of your time will be self-directed and there will be a substantial amount of reading, viewing, studying, and writing required. This course is completely online using Canvas; all assignments and quizzes are submitted online. There are no face-to-face meetings. Be prepared to spend at least 8 - 12 hours per week on coursework for this class.

Course Description

BIO 205 - Human Anatomy
Introduces the structure and function of the human body. Introduces and integrates cytology, histology, embryology and pathology throughout each organ system. Includes gross and microscopic anatomy of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, sensory, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive organ systems. Lab includes study of preserved specimens, models and charts. Transfer: CSU; UC.

The final will be taken on the scheduled day only.

If you miss an exam for any reason you must email me lschicke@cuesta.edu before 3:00 pm on the day of the exam to petition for a make-up exam. Make-up exams are not guaranteed but are dependent upon emergency situations.

Attending ZOOM in Lecture and Lab:

You will be required to attend ZOOM sessions for lecture and lab. The required LECTURE ZOOMS are as listed above. In addition, you will be required to attend LAB ZOOMS twice a week. You will choose from the times below to meet your lab ZOOM requirement. If you do not attend the required ZOOMs there will be point penalties. This will be explained during our first lecture.

Lab Hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - 8:30 am to 9:00 pm

Friday- 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

Saturday- 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (Noon)

Cheating or dishonesty will be dealt with seriously. It will result in failure of the assignment or exam and may result in failure in the entire course. Please see the student code of conduct found in the current Cuesta Catalog, located on-line.

Attendance will be taken regularly. Penalties will be explained in lecture.

After 3 unexcused absences you may be dropped from the course.

Attending class, including online sessions, is important!!!

3 exams at 100 points/each-------------300 points

Personal note

Cuesta College, like colleges and Universities all over the world, is facing some unprecedented changes to how we operate. Whether taught online or in person, BIO205 Human Anatomy is a fascinating and challenging course that will give you tremendous insight into the human body. Taking a class during a pandemic can pose some challenges that we may not have anticipated. Whatever the case, I am here for each of my students and want to see you succeed. One key to success is communicating with me early about any challenges you are facing. Another key to success is to engage with your classmates. So be friendly and responsive with each other, even if it feels unnatural online or you feel shy. A third key, is to plan your study calendar and be self-disciplined. I look forward to meeting you in person and online!
