Hello, my name is Catherine Ruiz and I will be your instructor for MAST 110 this Fall semester.  This is an introductory two week course that will taught online as a asynchronous course.  We will have a zoom meeting on the first day of class Wednesday August 19th at 9:00am.  You will have homework  due on the next day.  Each Friday we will have a live chat via Canvas from 2-3pm and you will be expected to participate.  Some of the topics that will be covered are Law, Ethics, Communication and Professionalism. You will have a reading assignment due on the first day of class, you can get the text book at the campus bookstore if you wish.  The required textbook is:

Lind, Wilburta Q. Tamparo, C. et al, (2017).  "Comprehensive Medical Assisting  Administrative and Clinical Competencies". 6th ed. Cengage Learning. MA.

The student learning outcomes are as follows:

1. Describe the role of the medical assistant including front and back office responsibilities.

2. Identify and demonstrate professional characteristics of a medical assistant

3.  Recognize and describe safe and ethical medical assisting practice based on California regulations, scope of practice and professional organizations.

The syllabus and handbook will be available online.  If you do not  attend the zoom conference on the first day of class you will be dropped.
