Once you have passed MAST 110 & MAST 111 and have submitted the required documents in a timely fashion, you will be assigned to a clinical site by your instructor.  You will have a preceptor  at the clinical site and  will need to complete 48 hours of clinical time.  You will not attend class during this time.  Your schedule will be made by your clinical manager and yourself.  You may need to attend a company orientation.  After you have completed the laboratory hours and submitted them to your instructor you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Cuesta College.  You will then be qualified to apply for a Medical Assisting Certification examination at California Certification Board of Medical Assisting (CCBMA) or National Health Careers Association (NHA).  The examination for certification is highly recommended for employment, and is initiated by the student.

Student Learning Outcomes:

1.  Apply competent and safe medical assisting practices within the CA scope of practice.

2.  Apply written and verbal communication skills and produce a present a professional portfolio for externship interview/placement and future employment.

3.  Accurately obtain and document basic physical assessment data according to agency policy and legal standards.

4.  Accurately collect specimens, analyze CLIA waived tests, and obtain an EKG

5.  Identify routine financial practices performed in the medical office.
