Hello, my name is Catherine Ruiz and I will be your instructor for MAST 111.  The first day of class will be via zoom conference on September 2nd at 9:00, if you do not attend will be dropped from the class.  Adding this class will be very limited due to difficulty in obtaining externship sites as we begin MAST 111L.  This class will be a hybrid blend taught both online and on campus.  The online portion with taught asycronously with homework due on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Most of the quizzes will be on Wednesdays with each question worth one point each.  The homework questions will be worth 1/2 point each.  Assignments will be posted in Canvas modules.  The work will be turned in and submitted under Canvas quizzes.  Due dates will also be posted in the syllabus. Will  have a live chat via Canvas on Fridays from 2-3pm that you are expected to participate in.

We will be on campus on Thursdays 9:00  until 2:00 for the skills portion with competencies that you will be checked off on.  You will document your work/skills  in Chromebooks  with the SimChart software supplied by the college or on your laptop.

Student Learning Outcomes:

1.  Apply  competent and safe medical assisting practices within the CA scope of practice.

2.  Apply written and verbal communication skills and produce a professional portfolio for externship interview/placement for future employment.

3.  Accurately obtain and document basic physical assessment data accordingly to agency policy and legal standards.

4.  Accurately perform medication dosage calculations and administer medications while applying the six rights.

5.  Accurately collect specimens, analyze CLIA waived tests, and obtain an EKG.

6.  Identify routine financial practices performed in the medical office
