Welcome Letter Paramedic Prep and Lab

WELCOME TO EMS 105

My name is Tania Coulombe and I will be your instructor for EMS 105 Paramedic Prep and Lab for the fall semester 2020 (CRN 74527 and 74528). I look forward to our classroom discussions as we review the EMT Basic course and prepare you for the rigor of the paramedic program.  If you are unsure if the paramedic program is a good fit for you, this is also a great place to work through those concerns. I am also looking forward to our skills days where we will review the skills necessary to enter the paramedic program as well as work through more advanced skills in integrated skills stations. Additionally, you will have three ride alongs scheduled during the course and I look forward to hearing about your interactions with paramedics and patients and any insights you gain to the industry as a whole.  In this course you will:

  • Understanding of the Anatomy and Physiology of the human body
  • Understanding of entry level EKGs
  • Understanding of the professional attributes of the Paramedic
  • Understanding of the career choices of the Paramedic
  • Ability to write a patient care report with accuracy and integrity
  • Understand the difference between a BLS and ALS patient assessment
  • Knowledge of frequently encountered home medications and paramedic medications
  • Understanding of the study habits required to successfully complete the paramedic program

Our course dates are August 21 – October 17, 2020 and our MANDATORY skills days are Saturday September 19th, Friday October 16th, and Saturday October 17th.  Each class will meet from 0900-1200 in room 2503.

Remember to schedule 2-3 hours per week per unit of college course work.  For this class, you can expect up to 6 hours per week in order to complete all assigned tasks.
