Are you being evaluated? Are you evaluating a faculty member?

These resources should be helpful to make the process as straightforward as possible. The following lists will identify what you should consider as you prepare your canvas shell for viewing. This page also contains links to other pages for other resources you might find helpful.

First review the Faculty Evaluation Timeline to ensure you are completing the necessary requirements on time.

Faculty being evaluated:

Visit with your peer evaluator and determine what will be reviewed and the amount of time needed to review and time they will spend in your course.
Add your peer evaluator(s) to your canvas course as an Evaluator.
Click on People in your course navigation, Click +People, enter the Cuesta email address, select the role of Evaluator, then click add users.
Ensure the pages, modules, assignments, and activities you want your peer evaluator to view are published.
Your evaluator will not be able to view your email correspondence; provide copies of any pre-semester communication, important interactions with students related to regular effective contact that will not be present in the Canvas shell.
Provide your evaluator with instructions on how to navigate your course (just as you did your students). As well as highlight where to locate the content you want them to view as part of your evaluation.
Send students an email or announcement to advise them you are being evaluated and there will be a guest in the course. Also advise them that between weeks 9 - 12 a new link will populate on the course navigation to an anonymous questionnaire that they will need to view and participate. (you will get additional information from Academic Affairs). See a sample and how to improve participation.

Peer Evaluator:

Request permissions to the Canvas shell(s) from the faculty member you are evaluating. Provide them your email address so they can add you properly to the Canvas shell as Evaluator (see step 2 above).
Discuss with the faculty member and determine the amount of time you will access the Canvas shell (1 day, 1 week, etc). It should be equivalent to that of a face to face course, and mutually agreed upon.
Review the course Welcome Letter, course Announcements, or other emails (provided by faculty member) to verify any pre-semester communication.
View the course syllabus to identify the course SLO's, grading policy, and course requirements have been communicated to students.
Review canvas pages, modules, assignments to identify if goals and objectives have been articulated clearly to students.
View discussion boards, and announcements for regular effective contact (student to student and faculty to student).
Use the course navigation link to access materials in the course, is it organized and easy to navigate? Has the instructor provided guidance to students on how to navigate the course (possibly in the welcome letter or in the first module or page)? Does the instructor use only necessary navigation links (disabled links they are not using)?
View the gradebook / speedgrader to verify helpful, timely feedback provided to students.
View the discussion boards and/or email to identify timeliness, respect and confidentiality of addressing questions and student concerns.
Check that documents, pages, images, videos meet accessibility standards. Are videos closed captioned (with correct synced captions), do images have alt tags, do PDF's or Word Documents use headings, lists, and hyperlinks formats?
