Additional Help For Anxiety

The American Psychological Association defines anxiety as an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes such as increased blood pressure or perspiration. Anxiety is experienced by all humans at some point in their lives and can be triggered by certain situations that bring back traumatic memories or experiences associated with anxious feelings. Some reasons to seek professional help, such as with a mental health counselor, associated with anxiety:

  • When worry becomes severe enough to cause significant distress and interferes with daily life
  • Avoiding certain situations out of an irrational fear
  • Irrational fears of objects, places, or situations that are not dangerous or that pose little to no threat
  • Spontaneous panic attacks
  • Recurring nightmares or flashbacks
