Vaccines
Overview
Vaccines are a hot topic among students today, and often times, are not thought of as essential among the college student population. When it comes down to disease prevention, vaccines are a proven way to decrease getting serious diseases. You have put a lot of work into your college courses. Contracting influenza at the end of a semester can leave you too sick to continue and your hard work may be lost. A free flu vaccine can stop that from happening. By getting vaccinated for vaccine preventable illnesses like influenza, you can help to keep your family, friends, and fellow students safe and disease free.
Adults need vaccines. They protect against serious and deadly disease outbreaks, especially in areas where herd immunity is underdeveloped. Outbreaks that develop into epidemics can be decreased or prevented through mass vaccination among the priority population. It is important for adults to stay up to date on any childhood vaccines that require a booster, new vaccines that have become more recently available, and any other vaccines that are recommended for when traveling out of the country.
If a person has not been vaccinated as a child, it may be appropriate to pursue vaccinations when considering world travel or moving into a new environment, such as a college setting. Many highly populated habitats or countries are rampant with certain diseases that could be easily prevented through vaccinations. Adults should consider re-vaccination if they have not been vaccinated since childhood. The effectiveness of certain vaccines wear off over time, and it is necessary to re-vaccinate in order to stay immune or protected from those diseases.
