How does the training work?
|
Here is a brief synopsis of how instructors should work through and complete the Instructor Training Course: |
- Course content is arranged in Modules and ordered to help you build a course as efficiently and effectively as possible.
- Modules can be completed in any order, but to complete the training the quiz at the end of each Module must be completed with a 100%.
- Faculty are provided a sandbox course (blank course) and should use this course as a place to (1) try out what they are learning in the Training Course and (2) as a place to build a fully developed course.
- Information is provided about all Canvas features, but the instructor can pick what features to implement in their course.
- Faculty will have the knowledge and tools to build their sandbox by Module 8, but the Sandbox course does not need to be reviewed and approved until the end of training. The sandbox course will be reviewed by Kona Jones (Director of Online Learning) to ensure the technology is used correctly.
- To complete Canvas Instructor Training (1) the Sandbox course needs to be reviewed and approved and (2) the quiz at the end of each Module needs to be completed with an 100%.

Your Canvas Sandbox
|
As part of the Instructor Training a sandbox course was automatically created for you in Canvas. This is where you can try out everything you learn in the instructor training. This is also where you will build a fully developed course that the Director of Online Learning will review before you complete Canvas training. |
What is your sandbox course?
Your sandbox course is an empty Canvas course that will serve as your space to experiment with Canvas as you work through the Instructor Training. It is also where you will build a fully developed course. You are the instructor of this course and will be able to set it up the way you want it. This includes copying course content from another Canvas course or starting a course from scratch.
Where can you find your sandbox course?
This course can be found by clicking on Courses on the left side pf of the page. The course should be titled by your last name and then Sandbox. For example, if your name is James Jones, your sandbox course will be called Jones Sandbox or J Jones Sandbox.
What is the purpose of the sandbox course?
The purpose of using the sandbox course is that you should build a complete course in Canvas that you can then copy into a real course to use with students.
Will someone make sure I've set up my sandbox course correctly?
Once you have built a complete course in your sandbox course, the Director of Online Learning will review the course with you to make sure you've utilized the technology correctly. Once your sandbox course has been reviewed and approved, you can then request the creation of your real courses in Canvas. To help make sure you've set up your course correctly, you should also review the sandbox course checklist.
Will I have access to my sandbox course in the future?
You will always have access to your sandbox course. This means it is a great place to try out new and advanced features without affecting your live course(s).
