Course Overview
Welcome to BUS 243 Marketing, a Distance Education course. In this course you will be exploring how companies and organizations provide value to their customers through marketing. Our approach will include the study of traditional marketing concepts integrated with timely real world examples and new media marketing. You will become familiar with concepts and current thinking in marketing, and you will have the opportunity to analyze and apply these ideas to the business world. This is a course where you will bring your own work experience to our virtual classroom to create a robust learning environment. Expect your marketing acumen to grow through group discussions, and thought-provoking case study analysis.
In order to be successful in this course you will need to: 1) complete reading and writing assignments, 2) participate in online discussions, 3) develop and write a marketing plan for a simulation, 4) review and analyze various forms of marketing, and 5) take quizzes and exams. This course is taught using Canvas and Connect along with a Marketing Simulation Game. These are Web-based tools used to facilitate teaching an online class and all are required. Do not buy the required course materials, you will be charged directly by Cuesta College!!! You will receive instant access to all need materials. These platforms provide the framework for the BUS 243 class including an e-Book, student data files, the tools to receive and send course materials, and a grade book. Using Canvas, you can communicate with other students, and you can share materials and ideas with other course participants via the discussion forum.
Student Learning Outcomes
1. Students will be able to identify the marketing mix and how each component of the marketing mix must be aligned to successfully market a product or service.
2. Students are able to prepare a comprehensive marketing plan. Including market research, creating marketing objectives and metrics to analyze the results of the plan.
3. Students are able to identify major social criticisms of marketing and explain the role of ethics in marketing

Academic Honesty:

At the discretion of the instructor, students being academically dishonest (submitting another student’s work as your own, e.g. copying a computer file that contains another student’s work) will be dropped from the course.
