Welcome to Women's Swim Team!
My email; cminton@cuesta.edu
Our CRN is (TBD)
Practice time: M, T, W, Th and Fridays from 3-5PM at the pool.
I encourage you to take another fitness class to cross train. Courses might include Weight Training (With Janel Guad...1:30 MW), Yoga (especially for divers), and or any conditioning course that might fit into your schedule twice a week. I especially support strength training outside of the pool, and feel learning how to use weights and/or build core strength is a good life learning experience.
Coach-Athlete Partnership
As a coach I will both challenge and support you. You are welcome to talk with me before and after we have practice. We can also schedule an appointment if you need to talk at a different time. There are several support services on campus including the physical Training Room, Student Health Center, a food pantry in the Movement and Health Sciences 1300 building, etc.
Validate your personal background
I have taught swimming previously. If you don't feel "fast" or think you need improvement, then this course is also for you. I am also familiar with many swimming techniques to improve efficiency in the water. As an Intercollegiate course, there is plenty of opportunity to set goals, compete and improve personal swim times.
Demystify how to be eligible for the team.
At the beginning of the semester there is an academic and health clearance process with the Athletic Director, and the Training staff. If you have not yet had a physical with a doctor, please schedule something for the first couple weeks in January. At this time we welcome EVERYONE to participate.
Assignments and Grading
Participation is key in this course. If you are sick, we don't want to get the rest of the team sick. However, I will have out of pool assignments for you to complete if you cannot participate in team practice. These assignments might include filming teammates, and stroke analysis.
We have meets and a tentative schedule is embedded for this season.

Minton's Aquatic Biography
I have a long history with swimming and diving. I started on a competitive swim club at age 11 in Northern California. Back in the day it was AAU and later became US-Swim. At the time my favorite event was butterfly, and I achieved several "A" times. My high school did not have a swim team, but my community college did. I swam my freshman year. There were only 4 girls on the team that year. The next year I competed in diving and I swam butterfly also. I continued to swim and dive at Cal State Hayward, and qualified for NCAA II nationals in 1M and 3M diving.
I began coaching diving at Santa Barbara High School back in the late 1980s. I have coached dive for Nipomo, AGHS, MB, and SLO. I ran a club US diving program for over a decade. I have also coached two stints at Cal Poly, the last ending in 2013. My most recent stint at SLO high was 2020-2022. I coached dive at Cuesta 2024 and 2025.
