Welcome to Swimming & Diving Applications!

Catalog Description: This course is designed for students of advanced ability in swimming. Fundamentals of all four competitive strokes and advanced strategies of how to compete as an individual/team will be incorporated. This course is recommended for those interested in intercollegiate competition.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Recognize the components of advanced swimming techniques
  2. Demonstrate competency in the performance of advanced swimming techniques
  3. Evaluate one's own level of swimming skill in relation to advanced standards

Instructor Contact: The best way to contact me is email. I generally respond within 24 hours. During busy times of the semester, response time may increase to 48 hours. I do have office hours on MW from noon-12:30PM in room 1321 (Athletic building).

Course Environment: This course meets in-person at the Cuesta college SLO campus pool.

Academic content: Part of the course evaluation includes an academic component. This may include stroke analysis and quiz(zes) on competitive rules and safety considerations.

Canvas is the Web-based Learning Management system at Cuesta College. Supplement information will be posted in Canvas regarding competition rules, video analysis and assignment information. Within Canvas there is a place to submit homework, take quizzes and view the grade book.

Although a segment may involve Canvas, most of our time will involve warm-up and skill improvement. Canvas may be used to examine videos for skill evaluation.

No textbook required for this class.
