Dear CDFS 203 Students,

Welcome, I’m so glad that you’re here! My name is Virginia Roof and I will be your instructor for CDFS 203: Curriculum for Young Children, CRN 75176/75447.  This is a dual enrollment course, offered online at Cuesta in collaboration with Paso Robles High School.

Quick Start Information

  • FREE TEXT: Curriculum for Early Childhood Education by Jennifer Paris & Kristin Beeve. FREE Download via LibreText Links to an external site. for students. The chapters will also be embedded in each course Module in Canvas. Supplemental materials will be posted in Canvas, under each week’s topic heading.
  • Do you have everything you need to succeed in this class? Reliable internet access? A functioning computer? If not, reach out to the Student Hub at the link or at: (805) 546-3116 & student_services@cuesta.edu.
  • If you have a disability and might need accommodations in this class such as extended time on quizzes or other resources. Please contact the instructor as soon as possible so that you can receive appropriate accommodations in a timely manner. You should also contact Disability Support Programs & Services Links to an external site. at 805-546-3148.
  • Accessing Canvas: You will see your course in Canvas on the first day of class. You can access Canvas by clicking on Canvas from the top bar of the Cuesta homepage Links to an external site. or by typing the Canvas address into your browser address bar. For best performance, Canvas should be used on the current or first previous major release of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. As a student, I find that I am most successful in online courses when I plan ahead and log in 2-3 times/week.
  • For this 3 unit course, Cuesta College requires you to spend 6-9 hours/week on average participating in course activities (reading, studying, viewing videos, participating in discussions, completing assignments and papers, taking quizzes, etc.). You will need to do some of that coursework as homework. I recommend reading the textbook at home as homework & completing learning activities in class. Projects are a large part of this course, so please be prepared to work collaboratively and share your learned experience with your fellow students.
  • Good news, our class offers flexibility!  You will choose when you submit assignments and complete assessments, within each week. However, self-discipline and self-motivation is required. Your success in this class depends upon your ability to pursue the course material with self-direction and commitment.

Sincerely,

Virginia
