Homework

The online homework assignments are done on Supersite (Links to an external site.). See the registration instructions page to help you sign up. Do not wait until the last minute to complete the workbook as no late homework will be accepted. Technology failures do not excuse late work. Other homework may be assigned as needed throughout the semester at the instructor’s discretion. The online homework includes activities such as grammar practice activities, workbook activities, reading, writing, culture, speaking, and listening. There will be homework due every Sunday at 11:59pm.

Exams

There will be 4 chapter exams and a final exam to be completed in Supersite. These exams will cover the main points of each chapter. They will consist of a combination of various activities, such as listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, culture, and reading. The exams are intended to aid students in comprehending the material learned so far. The final exam will be cumulative and will be administered the last week of classes and will have a written exam. It will include grammar, vocabulary, culture, reading, writing, listening, and/or other topics covered in class or on the homework. See the calendar for exact dates.

Discussion

There will be one Discussion Forum per chapter and you will complete them on Canvas. You are required to post your own response to the given topic for each chapter and then respond to another post. Remember to only use appropriate language and ideas on these posts, and please be polite while commenting on other posts.

Compositions

There will be three (3) compositions during the semester, with two (2) versions for each one, to be submitted on Canvas. You will submit the first version, then I will correct it, and then you will resubmit the second, final version.  You can find more information on the Compositions link in the Compositions Module in Canvas. Please see the calendar for due dates. Remember that the use of online translators (e.g. Google Translate) is not allowed. If you use a translator, you will receive a “0” on the assignment and you can be reported to Academic Affairs.

Video Chats

This is a recorded video conversation with a partner that you will then save to your computer and submit on Canvas. I recommend using Zoom (You can sign up for a free account using your Cuesta College email), but any video that you can save and upload to Canvas will work. Please consult the Video Chat Schedule to find your partner. You can complete the video chat any time before the due date, but remember that technical problems do NOT excuse late work. Student 1 will be the "host" and will start the conversation and student 2 will join it. You are both responsible for saving and submitting the video on Canvas. The conversation should be at least 10 minutes long total and should be a natural conversation with no English. This means that you should add more information through follow-up questions, elaboration, or other items relevant to the conversation. This sounds scary but it is fun. Practice is the only way to learn!

Presentation

You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation in Spanish at the end of the semester. The topic will be announced in class but will relate to the grammar, vocabulary, and culture points covered in the course. See the calendar for exact dates.
