COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Introduction to engineering drawing using AutoCAD. Topics include geometric construction, orthographic projection, isometrics, sectionals, auxiliaries, descriptive geometry, dimensioning, and working drawings.

TEXT: None required, all material is provided by Class4me (See below)

 Course assignments and additional materials can be viewed online.  Students will be required to pay for the access, $69.  https://cuesta.instructure.com/eportfolios/135/Access_Fee

GRADES: 4 Tests Equally weighted (60%) 90-100 A (-)
Assignments (15%) 80-89 B (+/-)
Quizzes (15%) 70-79 C (+)
Attendance (10%)  60-69 D (+/-)
+/- grades break at 3 and 7 (ex. 83 and 87) <60 F

TUTORS: Tutors may be available for free through Tutorial Services located in building 3300.

EXAMS/HW:  NO make-ups or taking exams early will be permitted.  All Tests/ assignments are open book. Students must bring photo ID to all exams.  Late homework may be accepted up to 2 days late and will be marked down 30%.

DROPPING: Students who are not completing the assignments/Quizzes may be dropped from the class.

 Note:

  • Online assignments need to be uploaded through Canvas by 9 pm PT (Pacific Time) on the date shown on Canvas. See Canvas for the schedule.
  • Bring a flash drive to each exam. Also bring a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) and I will mail you your exam back.  Finals will be recycled immediately after grading unless you left me a SASE.  Grades can be viewed online on Canvas.

 STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Use CAD software to create 2D engineering drawing given a 2D sketch.
  • Use CAD software to create multiviews and sections views from pictorials.
  • Use CAD software to: -find the true length of lines. -find the area of a first auxiliary shape.
  • find the area of a second auxiliary shape. -create pictorials.
  • Use CAD software to: -Apply standards of dimensioning and tolerancing to engineering drawings. -Draw basic 3D objects using 3D modeling software.

  • Students must provide a photo ID when taking exams. Also Authenticating student identity will be conducted through the use of the Learning Management System, Canvas. Canvas requires each student to log into the program using a secure login and password to access. 
  • Regular and Effective Instructor Contact will be met through weekly instructor initiated homework and threaded discussion forums; weekly announcements to students; timely and effective feedback on student assignments; email, or messaging to individuals; and office hours which may be asynchronous or synchronous.
  • Regular and effective contact shall happen in several ways: through weekly announcements, weekly discussion forums, weekly instructor prepared lectures and weekly individual feedback from the instructor through student assignment. Instructor will communicate through the LMS, email, and create virtual or face-to-face office hours. The use of live chats and video conferencing may also be used to best meet each student’s ability and learning style. Instructor office hours (traditional and virtual) will be made available to students (on course syllabus or posted within the LMS) and through private appointments.
  • Adaptions to Methods of Evaluation: All course work will be set up and assessed through LMS. This will include homework assignments downloaded, attached and submitted online, participation in weekly online forum discussions, and online quizzes and exams, Face-to-face demonstrations of content proficiency. When evaluations are administered online, student identity will be verified by the password login that is built into the course management system.

 Netiquette and Online Course Participation

  • Use respectful and appropriate language in your forum discussions.
  • Emoticons are acceptable ways to show emotion.
  • Avoid CAPS as they come across like YOU'RE SCREAMING.
  • You are expected to read all forum posts.
  • All messages are public, so be careful and courteous when you post.
  • Make your posts thorough and your replies as well.
